Super Fast Swapping Stops
i2Hub, the super fast file swapping service used by students, has closed up shop after succumbing to pressure from the entertainment industry.
The university2university network has been accused of being a conduit for the illegal distribution of copyrighted movies and music.
Potential legal problems were cited as the reason for winding up the service.
"R.I.P. 11.14.2005" read the website.
i2Hub ran off Internet2, a research network set up to allow students to swap course material. Turns out, the academic posers were more likely to swap movies and video files than text books.
i2Hub was of particular concern the entertainment industry because of the turbo broadband speed of Internet2 which allowed users to download large files in a matter of seconds.
The Motion Picture Association of America said 99 terabytes of film content was swapped each day via i2Hub.
