TJR
FEAT. XAVIER - JUST GETS BETTER
I
adore this track! A funky beat that just
cannot be matched with a odd pitched
woman in the background talking about
the BBC license fee. Well, not really.
DA
MOB FEATURING JOCELYN BROWN - FUN
Oohh
this mix is as sweet as a cherry on a
freshly layed bowl of cherries in a cherry
tree park. If you don't get up and dance
you must be dead it's THAT GOOD!
KRISTINE
BLOND - LOVE SHY (Tuff Jam Classic Vocal)
Fantastic
vocal from the young miss with a top-sausage
beat. But I am sure she says lome-shome
and not Love Shy. But who knows? I cannot
even understand half the accents on Jerry
Springer....
DOUBLE
99 - RIP GROOVE
This
track is pretty much the one record everyone
associates with Speed Garage. That and
the underground hit "Ripe Pear" by
George Formby released some years before.
TINA
MOORE - NOBODY BETTER
You
tell 'em Tina! There is noooobody better,
lalalala. But I do wish all these famous
musicians would stop making songs about
me (I live in a dream world..don't wake
me up from it....)
UNDO
- R U SLEEPING?
This
would be a great track for sleeping pills.
Not because it's dull or boring (far
from it folks) - just 'cos it has sleeping
in the title. See! I am a clever boy
really. I just PRETEND to be stupid!
SOMORE
- I REFUSE (what you want)
Speed
Garage classic from 1997 that was larger
than a large thing holding a large banner.
It was "in the house" "in
the mix" and all that nonsense.
(Well, in the Garage and not really in
the house)
VOICES
OF LIFE - THE WORD IS LOVE
Kelly's "lets
you go" mix - great track in 1998 from
AM:PM. They later went on to invent Dried
Prunes but never quite matched these
dizzy heights again.
BARBARA
TUCKER - EVERYBODY DANCE (the horn song)
Sampling
the old skool "Horn Song" classic.
Lovely fish indeed and very New York(ish).
Reminds me of the old Texan bars. Now
WHERE did they go?
LADYCOP
- TO BE REAL
Funky
and deep(ish) classic release that's
as smooth as a baby's botty! Many requests
for this one, and you can certainly see
why...it has "that" feel to
it.....wonderful !
NU-BIRTH
- ANYTIME
Another speed garage track that has been overplayed but what
the heck! Enjoy it you wonderful people.
It's still my "all time tip top
flip flop clip clop" chart favourite!
H20
FEAT BILLIE - NOBODY'S BUSINESS
Euro
vocal mix from the 1996 release that
stormed the UK charts like a big stormtrooper.
Apparently it's nobody business what
she does, which is nice.
2
FAT BUDDHAS VS FAT HEAD - WHEEL 'EM IN
Forget
that chart version by bamboo - this is
the way to rework an old disco tune!!
Bit of rap mixed in with a pop party
feeling....and you cannot get better
then that!
Z
FACTOR - GOTTA KEEP PUSHIN'
Yet
again another famous disco track is sampled
- and this time to good effect. Stick
with it and see, it's like a locket.
Hard on the outside and all gooey and
sweet inside!
SYLVESTER
- DO YOU WANNA FUNK?
The
1991 remix by those wonderful Italians
again - much more of an anthem now with
ten tons of piano. I am addicted to them.
But not so much in the Trafford Centre...
K-JEE
- SHELLSHOCK
OOohh
Jazz. From the tip-tapping fingers this
has got a beat so divine you can almost
feel your hips swinging as the music
plays. With a touch of Austin Powers
to it too ;)
STRETCH "N" VERN
- IM ALIVE
Rare
as gold dust at first- then went on to
be be a mega huge chart smash in the
UK. Really did start the trend for "house-disco" track
combos....Lovely!
THE
ZONE- BRING ME BACK
A
touch of disco pumps into this nice and
cheerful tune from logic records, 1996.
The year that I discovered the secret
to life - Plenty of sleep and hot baps.
PROSPECT
PARK - MOVIN' ON
The
Joey Negro mix gets the crowd a 'jumpin...fantastic
upbeat garage sound! Kinda strange really.
Garage, House. Why is there no funky
roof or jazzy cellars?
THE
ABSOLUTE - I BELIEVE
Gospel-tastic
piano driven anthem mate, with a real
high uptempo! Swoon! The other version
of this is far more Gospel but this one
seems to carry the message just as well
- and funkier!
SMOKIN
BEATS - DREAMS
From
two years ago on the AM:PM label (again)
a lovely track that has a hidden meaning
to it....Don't ask what that meaning
is of course - you will just have to
buy the bloomin' thing!
