PostPosted: Thu Apr 29, 2010 2:12 am    Post subject: in the group - wow power leveling Reply with quote

Because I've just been starting the 80 heroics on my Pally tank, my gear is suitable (uncrittable, good other values, blah, blah), but I'm in no way overpowered for the instances. So, I've developed the habit of asking healers at the start of the run to let me know if the damage on me is too much for them to comfortably handle, so we can start CC. Then the funny thing happens, occasionally, a DPS will whine and say they don't want to do that, they just want to AoE the whole instance. Now if this describes you, here is my answer:

1. I didn't ask you

2. I don't care what your opinion on it is, because you won't be keeping me alive.

3. You are easily replaceable and have the easiest job in the group. Be ready to CC or GTFO.
Thank you. wow power leveling wow gold aion gold wedding dresses wow power leveling This article's about a problem that's existed since the game's launch, but seems to have become more common since Wrath's release due to a substantial demographic shift with plate classes (more on this in a bit). Simply put; is it appropriate to turn down a potential member of a group over loot competition? Players generally don't want to face the prospect of losing a roll, especially if they've been endlessly running a dungeon trying to get a particular piece. But while you'll get a lot of sympathy if you've run, say, heroic Nexus 17 times trying to get the War Mace of Unrequited Love, people will generally elect to take a competitor if it's a choice between that and not doing the dungeon at all.
I'm writing this largely from the perspective of a tank who PuGs a lot and not infrequently gets saddled with recruiting additional members while trying to comply with peoples' requests*. Thankfully, on an average run people are happy to go with whoever's in LFG or advertising for a dungeon run in the trade channel. But there are a distinct minority of runs where players get fairly insistent over not taking a potential competitor, especially if they have seen a needed item drop previously and keep losing the roll. So far the funniest has been trying to pick up a third DPS for a heroic Strat:
wow gold HUNTER: Please don't take another hunter or an enhance shammy.
HOLY PRIEST: Can we avoid picking up another clothie or caster?DPS WARRIOR: No Death Knights or retadins please.ME: Well, that eliminates...uh...almost everyone.
wow power leveling If people get jdgtwmcxjejd really unpleasant about it I tend to remind them (politely) that:
They may very well be turning down a player who may not need or even want the drop in question. Even if they do, people are often willing to pass to someone who's been trying to get a drop for
wedding dresses weeks. The dungeons aren't going anywhere. I think we can all be fairly certain that Blizzard intends to keep them in the game. And if I'm irritated, a somewhat gentler version of: Haven't we been waiting long enough to get this run going?
Personally I don't think it's really all that fair to discriminate against potential group members on the basis of loot they do or don't need, especially when you're just tossing a 5-man/heroic run together, but I will also admit that I can afford to be fairly cavalier about it. Tanks generally don't have issues getting a run, so I may very well be underestimating the frustration factor of a DPS who has to spend significantly more time than I do getting a group and a shot at a drop they may already have lost multiple times. If I were in that position, I wouldn't necessarily feel great about losing a drop for the umpteenth time just because my group leader couldn't be arsed to ask about it before adding people.
wow power leveling Requests like these are cropping up a lot more lately, particularly with players competing against the plethora of Death Knights now leveling through Outland and Northrend. This has run the gamut from a DPS Warrior who didn't want to risk losing a ring to a DPS Death Knight, to a tanking Paladin who was heartily sick of doing the same dungeon a million times waiting for boots to drop, to a Death Knight who was desperate for anything better than leveling greens but kept losing rolls to people whose toons spent months at 70. I understand the impulse, but sometimes people will get fairly nasty over having to accommodate potential competition, and I have actually dropped a heroic group where this occurred. When a DPS DK starts demanding that I uninvite a fellow DPS DK from a group because the player is certain to roll on his weapon, I take that as a sign for me to get the hell out of Dodge. Congrats, buddy; now you need another DPS and a tank.
I don't think it's right to put a group leader in the position of having to judge who's more deserving of an item that may not drop anyway, but I can't pretend that that's not going to happen, or that the leader doesn't have some measure of responsibility. In an ideal world, the group wouldn't dump the job on the leader, and would be able to suggest available players for all the needed slots in a group with a minimum of loot competition (either because people didn't need certain drops or were willing to pass) -- but I also won't pretend that this happens all the time either.
wedding dresses Is there any fair means of determining whether you should invite potential loot competition to a group? Is it right to turn someone down for a slot because they need the same drop as someone who's already in the group? And does the situation change if a group member's been after a drop for a long time with no luck? Is it really all that right anyway for people to call certain drops as their own before the run even gets started?
*Yes, life would probably be a lot easier if I didn't PuG and stuck only to guild runs, but I actually enjoy pugging. It's a good way to meet new people, and get information and gossip from around the server. And if I didn't PuG, I would have no awful PuG stories to write about here.

Kind of like easy to replace pally tanks also right ???. Currently there is no tank shortage only healers so you tick the right one off your the one that will be replaced.

So...you're an ass?
Pally Tanking hard? Really? Not these days, and you are easily replaceable by any of a thousand Death Knights.

Wait, what was the point of this thread

Not even close, although healers are indeed the hardest now.

Again I say, that may have been true some weeks ago, but today replacing a tank seems just as easy.
Replacing a Pally tank that cannot hold multiple targets especially.

Hmm.....your the kind of person who complains to me to CC.
See, heres the problem. Half the time, when Im asked to CC, once I DO CC, you complain that I'm not doing it well enough. After I spend 5 minutes explaining to you my only CC spell lasts 6 seconds, and can only be used twice per enemy, you still complain to me im not CCing well enough. I play a Druid, and apparently everyone thinks that all the Cloth and leather classes can CC.

If you require CC in heroics, there is one of two issues:

- You are not geared enough. Go back to regulars and Icecrown quests.
- Your healer is not geared enough. Go back to regulars and Icecrown quests.

You forgot one:

- Your DPS is too low to get the mobs down in a decent amount of time and so you're taking an inordinate amount of damage.
Yes, I've had this happen.
To all DPS: Roll a tank or healer and deal with the mentioned situation, or S T F U.

The level of ignorance and arrogance in this thread is sickening. You have fun waiting on your lazy sack while I don't heal your group because apparently asking for CC, a game mechanic the developers deemed necessary for some odd reason, is asking too much of you. You enjoy having the easiest role in the game and never progressing past your quest blues because of the reputation you slap upon yourself.

TLDR: Stop fapping your e-peen DPS.

Need for CC doesn't always designate the worth or capability of a group. If the priest, tank, or any other member requests a sheep its not that hard to pop one off. Honestly it makes me feel more useful. And seriously, who doesn't like turning something into a penguin? Seriously.

Now if you make a habit of unsheeping my sheep (of unpenguining my penguin) I will probably pout then verbally assault you.
what did you do to keep from getting to post on him besides arguing with general xll?

why do ppl care so much if they are not the top L337 DPSZORS? if you're doing good dps then u are doing fine. do u guys realize that if there are ppl doing better dps than you (OH NO!) it makes things easier for EVERYONE? including you! think about it, you guys are working as a team in a pve situation, all the damage that is done is benefiting your TEAM.

for example:

take the nba, if kobe scores 81 points in a game, the lakers win. if he was nerfed and only allowed to score 15 points they lose. why do people complain?

ok so that wasnt the best example but comon, pve instancing and raiding is a team concept, so dont whine about people doing more damage than u.....its helping everyone
Meters are important to make sure the dps warrior is doing more than the tank.

musta sucked when you got called out wow power leveling wow gold aion gold wedding dresses wow power leveling If you were to knock WoW Insider's office door, you probably wouldn't get an answer this weekend, as most of the WoW Insider team seems to be /afk for the holidays. At least we're pretty sure we actually have more writers than are listed here -- and at least two of those only responded to our WRUP call-out by cell phone. Whether you're in game or out this weekend, we hope you're having a happy Winter Veil!
Alex Ziebart: I'm not really playing at all until the new computer parts I ordered gets to my house. The most I can do is fish in the back of Ironforge or my video card overheats. I play vicariously through my guildmates in guild chat when I'm not leveling a random alt's fishing. Someone narrating Wintergrasp to me is totally the same as being there, right?
wow gold Amanda Miller: I have been gathering presents for all of my alts, as well as working on the Merrymaker title. I've also been leveling my Death Knight through Northrend, although right now I'm trying to catch up on her Blacksmithing.
For the rest of the team, read on!Chase Christian: Testing out my new PC hardware
wow power leveling (thanks Santa!) with some 2v2 arenas this afternoon.
Daniel Whitcomb: I got the Merrymaker title on my Death Knight, and am currently working on it on my Hunter, though I need a few more Snowflakes for the silly Let It Snow Achievement. Before Winter Veil is over, I also want to cycle through all the alts I play to make sure they get their presents. But beyond the Winter Veil stuff, I also want to take a break to run Oculus and Halls of Stone for defense gear for my Death Knight as well.
aion gold ennie Lees: Keyboard-turned my way through a couple of instances, but having a relatively WoW-free Christmas. When I get home it's raiding catch-up and finishing off Merrymaker, though. Curse the inability to be useful as a feral festive gnome.
Lisa Poisso: I'm taking advantage of the holiday breather by catching up on jdgtwmcxjejd professions and dailies. Magnificent Magic Carpet, baybee!
Matt Rossi: I haven't been on since Wednesday due to general Christmasness. Tomorrow I'm
wow power leveling supposed to run Malygos 10/25, we'll see.
Michael Gray: Raising my JC to 450, and antiquing for a ring. I swear, it is coincidence.
wedding dresses Michael Sacco: Not playing because I don't even have the internet where I am.
Robin Torres: I am doing the holiday quests on all of my alts. All. Of. Them.
Zach Yonzon: More Wintergrasp, and a lot of Battlegrounds. I'm also taking the Holiday relaxation to actually do some Achievements like finishing exploring or some Merrymaker requirements.
for sucking.

1500 dps is not good dps

step it up home boy.

Because the amount of damage you do is the only thing of value anyone ever brings to a group.
The only reason I run a damage meter is to make sure people are able to put out a minimum DPS that I generally consider acceptable. I don't care who is on top, but I do care if the tank if out DPSing a hunter (except of course for some fights in which circumstances prevent said hunter from DPSing 100% of the time, aka Gluth). Basically, I just use meters as a way of making sure that players can meet a certain standard in a raid.
alright i understand why u would run a dmg meter if ppl were wiping....but if u are clearing easy !!#*...whats the point of spamming it? epeen much?

like i said earlier, i understand the usefulness of a dps meter IF ppl are wiping....but if its going well no ones dying or w/e...whats the point of spamming a dps chart and calling ppl noob, and saying !**% like step it up homeboy
As a tank I'd think you'd understand the importance of one these days. When Blizzard oh so wisely removed keying for heroics, I've got people in level seventy welfare epics queueing for heroic Azjol'Nerub.

I can't get through that dungeon when I'm second on the damage meter.

It's the only tool I have to gauge whether a not a DPS player is the problem. I don't know every detail about every class because I don't care too.

But, I suspect you're complaining about DPS players who cry about not being on top of the other DPS players, a lot of that is generally just friendly competition, as long as they don't hump the meter to the point of threat abuse it's only pushing them to do better, nothing wrong with that.

Unless they're being rude about, I can't stand rude players.
When you suck at life, it's important that you be good at WoW.
Because when a warlock and a mage isn't outdpsing the feral druid tank, you should know xll.

For most people, in order to view mod videos with dvd player, it's common to convert mod to dvd. mod to dvd converter is a good solution for the problem above. With mod to dvd burner, you can easily burn mod to dvd, and then you can share your dvd files with your friends, or just play it with dvd player, etc.
