Carey Left Behind
Irish supergroup U2 stormed the Grammy Awards this week, grabbing five major awards and putting comeback diva Mariah Carey firmly in the shade.
U2 took album of the year for "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb" and song of the year for "Sometimes You Can't Make It on Your Own."
Frontman Bono said the album was largely a rumination on his often difficult relationship with his father. "He was the atomic bomb in question," he said.
Carey had the chance to make history with the most Grammys won by a woman in a single night after being nominated in eight categories. She scooped three awards but missed out in all the major areas.
Grammy voters also decided to heap their love on American Idol Kelly Clarkson, who won the best pop vocal album for "Breakaway" - her second album.
Bono summed up U2's feeling as he accepted the Grammy for song of the year for Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own:
"If you think this is going to go to our heads, it's too late."
