U2 Concert Tickets Trouble
Posted by Anthems Staff on: Wednesday 18 January 2006

Brazilian Fans Disappointed

Getting tickets for U2 concerts is no easy task on a good day, given the band tends to sell out within hours, but for tens of thousands of Brazilian fans it was made even worse this week when tills at the supermarket chain selling the tickets broke down.

Let's just say most of the Irish boys' admirers who waited for over 12 hours were less than happy.

The cheapest ticket on offer was 200 reais which tallies up to around £50, a good sum even in the UK. But if your Brazilian, it means about two thirds of your monthly wage. Talk about die-hard.

Thankfully some people managed to get a few of the 73,000 tickets available before the tills crashed.

Organisers apologised and said an extra show would be added for the next day says the BBC

Police were on standby in case of crowd trouble, but none was reported.

One fan, 29-year-old teacher Verna Zula, had waited since 0300 for the tills to open at 1000 on Monday.

"I wouldn't have bothered if I had known it would be like this," she said on Monday evening.

"When I got here, there were 150 people in front of me. None of them have got tickets yet."
