Celebrities Pay Respects

Mourners came from around the world to pay their last respects to the late Luther Vandross. His funeral was held at Harlem's Riverside Church on Friday.

The service began at noon. Family, friends and fans packed the church. Hundreds who were turned away at the door, waited across the street.

Dionne Warwick, Alicia Keys and Usher were among the funeral attendees following a two day wake.

Fellow legends paid tribute to Luther during the service.

Aretha Franklin belted out a powerful rendition of "Amazing Grace". Patti LaBelle sang "No Ways Tired". Stevie Wonder paid tribute with "I Can't Complain." The end of the service saw the singers joined together for the Vandross classic "Power of Love".

A procession drove trhough Harlem before the funeral. When the car carrying his casket passed by the Apollo Theater fans celebrated his life by cheering him on one last time.

Wake viewings for Vandross' fans were held on Wednesday and Thursday at the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel. Cicely Tyson and Roberta Flack were among those in attendance. Fans holding homemade posters with messages like "I Love You Luther" waited outside.

Vandross died of complications from a stroke. He was 54 years old.
