Ok, so the forty-seven year old diva wasn't nominated in any category, but it was Madge’s night at the MTV Europe Music Awards. The ex-Material Girl wowed audiences at Thursday night's event with her pop/dance/disco music performance.

As for the rest of the show, we at anthems towers found this years ceremony easily forgettable. What happened to the spark that characterised last years Rome broadcast.

The predictability factor was high. Who would have guessed that Coldplay, Green Day and Robbie would walk away with a string of awards... perhaps the organisers should have put Madonna in the middle of the show to keep it interesting, everything after her performance was an anti-climax.

Borat, bless him, was his usual side splitting self, but I have a feeling his humour was lost on the Lisbon audience who spent most of the evening wondering what the strange man with the hairy back was gibbering on about. Come back to England Borat.

Other prize winners included Gorillaz, Black Eyed Peas and James Blunt.

Robbie Williams, who won the statuette for Best Male Performer despite only just being made aware of his nomination, commented on the Madonna performance by saying:

"She looked amazing, I watched with my mouth open all the way through her performance.

"She's an absolute legend and she makes us all look like amateurs."

Williams finished his salute by adding: "I can't believe she's 89 and looks like that."
