Posted by Anthems Staff on: Wednesday 27 July 2005

22 Annual MTV VA

MTV's 22nd annual Video Music Awards will return to Miami for a second consecutive year on August 28th. Hip Hop mogul Sean (formerly known as P Diddy) Combs has been announced as host.

Punk Rock band Green Day lead the nominees with 8 nods. Platinum Gwen Stefani and Missy Elliott tied for second place with six nominations each. U2, led by ubiquitous front-man Bono, came in third place with five mentions.

Video of the Year nominees were:

'Boulevard of Broken Dreams' by Green Day, directed by Sam Bayer; Kanye West's 'Jesus Walks', directed by Chris Milk; Coldplay's 'Speed of Sound', directed by Mark Romanek; 'Drop It Like It's Hot' by Snoop Dogg and Pharrell, and Stefani's 'Hollaback Girl', both directed by Paul Hunter.

Kanye West's 'Jesus Walk' is also vying for Best Male Video along with 50 Cent's 'Candy Shop', Usher's 'Caught Up', Beck's 'E-Pro', and John Legend's 'Ordinary People'.

Gwen Stefani's 'Hollanback Girl' is contending for female female honors. Her competition includes Amerie's '1 Thing', Kelly Clarkson's 'Since U Been Gone', Mariah Carey's 'We Belong Together', and Shakira and Alejandro Sanz's 'La Tortura'.

The ceremony will be held in Miami's American Airlines Arena.
