Brighton council says the city is not ready f...

Brighton council says the city is not ready for a repeat of the massive beach party which attracted 250,000 people in July. Fatboy Slim, who staged the Big Beach Boutique, has announced he would be willing to repeat the event next year. But according to a new report, Fatboy Slim in 2004 on Brighton Beachhe may have to wait until at least 2004 to hold the concert again amid fears over public safety. City council officers will recommend on Thursday that the Big Beach Boutique should not be given the go-ahead next summer, and that the guidelines for such events be reviewed to prevent a repeat of the scenes of overcrowding in July. The show was also held in 2001, but it only attracted 35,000 people. Chris Holm, resort services manager for the city council, said in a report to the culture committee: "No-one is ruling out the potential for such an event to take place in future years, subject to agreement by all appropriate parties." Organisers of the event are expected to meet with the council again next month.
