Farm Aid
Posted by Anthems Staff on: Tuesday 12 July 2005

20th Anniversary Edition

Farm Aid is returning to to Illinois. The 20th anniversary edition show for American family farms will be headlined by founders Willie Nelson and John Mellencamp.

This year's gig, set for September 18 at the Tweeter Center in Tinley Park, Illinois, will include performances by Dave Matthews, Wilco and Neil Diamond with more acts to be named.

Farm Aid President Nelson said it was good to be back in Illinois where it all started.

The anniversary show will be preceded by food and music events in Chicago to include a film festival, a county fair, and some small venue shows. Organizers describe the festivities as the city's efforts to "promote family-farm food by linking rural and urban communities."

Mellencamp said the show was important because it "...helps the consumer and the family farmer work together for the benefit of all of us."

The release of the Farm Aid book, "Farm Aid: A Song for America", is scheduled for the week of the concert.

The first Farm Aid concert was in 1985. Organizers say to date, the 17 shows have raised more than $27 million in support of family farms.
