Arctic Monkeys Take World By Storm
Posted by Anthems Staff on: Thursday 13 October 2005

P2P Plays Major Part

If you haven't heard of the Arctic Monkeys then you've not been hanging around Manchester lately. Tickets were going, going, gone when the band played The Ritz in Manchester on Sunday.

Students are turning up at gigs' with the words to every not-yet-released Arctic Monkeys song memorised – thanks in no small part ardent fans circulating the band's material on P2P sites.

"It's amazing isn't it," says Turner. "It might come back and bite us on the arse one day but when we first started playing we gave out demos to people and the fans just shared them around. And suddenly this great thing happened."

Britain's hottest new band, have been causing a stir up at sold out venues and down the country.

What started as campus hype (hundreds of university students swapping as yet unreleased Arctic Monkeys tunes via file sharing programs), has now turned into a media frenzy after the band played the Astoria in London. But the boys are taking it all in stride. In fact, the four young lads from Sheffield are even a bit amused by it all.

"It's nice to have the posh papers after us now," said Alex Turner, Arctic Monkeys singer, "Kind of funny but good nonetheless."

The Arctic Monkeys head back to their stomping grounds at the end of the month before taking off on a whirl wind world tour in November, with dates in New York, LA and Tokyo.
Arctic Monkeys' single 'I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor' is out on Monday. The album is out in January.
