It wouldn't be the same at anthems towers if we didn't curl up in front of the TV and watched the opening American Idol show in all it's HDTV glory.

Of course, the great thing about these first shows is the talentless singing. As soon as talent does rise from the unmitigated crap, the show quickly loses it's appeal.

So let's enjoy it while we can.

Tonight Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson begin dismantling the singing aspirations of thousands of "American Idol" hopefuls - most of whom think they could sing better than Hicks or past winners Carrie Underwood or Kelly Clarkson.

As viewers have learned, and loved about the show, most of those wanna-bes who show up early on in the run of "American Idol" couldn't carry Underwood's Manolos.

"We're looking for the next William Hung ... and all the other freaks whose dreams exceed their talent," said Kennedy, host the Fox Reality Channel's "Reality Remix."

It's incredibly hard to have a goal, a good work ethic and the raw talent needed to be a star, she said.

"So you're looking for the people who are delusional, because they're very entertaining," she said.
